Bring your 3D design and hands-on fabrication skills to a fast-paced model shop supporting creative build work, digital fabrication, and finishing projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning concepts into polished, functional physical pieces while contributing to a collaborative and detail-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Create and refine 3D models for fabrication, printing, and presentation using digital design tools
- Prepare CAD and other digital files for 3D printing, laser cutting, engraving, and related production workflows
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot 3D printers, with a strong focus on FDM processes
- Support scale model and part fabrication through established model shop methods and standards
- Perform post-processing tasks such as sanding, priming, painting, sealing, airbrushing, and surface finishing
- Assist with assembly, mounting, light mechanical work, and other build tasks as needed
- Provide support for framing, matting, large-format printing, mounting, laminating, and banner or mockup production
- Help manage materials, prepare files, and complete quick-turn fabrication requests in a shop environment
- Maintain a consistent work schedule and collaborate effectively with team members across departments
Skills
- High school diploma plus at least 2 years of related experience, or equivalent technical experience and/or education
- Strong experience with 3D modeling and parametric design workflows
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing, especially FDM printing
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D printers
- Proficiency in at least one major modeling tool such as Blender, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Tinkercad
- Ability to prepare files for printing, cutting, engraving, and related fabrication processes
- Solid understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a collaborative mindset
- Comfort working in a hands-on shop setting
Preferred Skills
- Background in mechanical engineering or studio arts
- Experience with finishing techniques such as painting, texturing, and airbrushing
- Familiarity with 2D and large-format printing workflows
- Knowledge of model-making best practices or industry standards
- General fabrication and hardware support experience, including light assembly work
- Ability to adapt 3D models for different platforms, uses, and output formats
