JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview

We are seeking a Test Automation Engineer to join an engineering team responsible for developing and enhancing a cloud-based application supporting a large-scale Research Data Platform.

This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining automated testing solutions while also performing manual test case development and execution when needed. The ideal candidate will bring a strong software testing foundation, hands-on experience with modern automation frameworks such as Playwright and Selenium, and experience testing applications deployed within GCP or other cloud environments.
The engineer will work closely with software engineers, product owners, and other technical stakeholders to ensure application functionality, reliability, and quality throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites for web and cloud-based applications.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, test scenarios, and test cases based on application requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform manual functional and regression testing when automation is not appropriate or available.
  • Build and maintain automated testing solutions using Playwright, Selenium, or comparable frameworks.
  • Identify, document, track, and troubleshoot application defects in partnership with engineering teams.
  • Execute regression, integration, functional, and end-to-end testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Validate application functionality and integrations within GCP or other cloud environments.
  • Develop scripts and testing utilities using languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, or similar technologies.
  • Integrate automated tests into development and CI/CD workflows where applicable.
  • Analyze test results, investigate failures, and clearly communicate defects and quality risks to the engineering team.
  • Maintain testing documentation, test evidence, and traceability between requirements and test cases.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, refinement, and release readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with developers to improve application testability and overall software quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience in software quality assurance, test engineering, or test automation.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing automated tests using Playwright and/or Selenium.
  • Demonstrated experience developing test plans, test cases, test scenarios, and testing documentation.
  • Experience performing both automated and manual testing.
  • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or comparable cloud environments such as Azure or AWS.
  • Programming experience with one or more languages such as Java, C, C++, or Python.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, VBScript, Perl, TCL, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with test management and automation platforms such as Quality Center, Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong understanding of software development and testing lifecycles.
  • Ability to troubleshoot test failures and distinguish between application, integration, environment, and automation issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Playwright in a modern application development environment.
  • Experience testing applications, APIs, and integrations hosted in GCP.
  • Experience incorporating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with API and integration testing.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum software development environments.
  • Experience supporting data-intensive, research, healthcare, or other complex enterprise applications.
