Zoox is seeking a highly skilled Cellular Systems Engineer to spearhead the development and optimization of connectivity systems for our pioneering autonomous vehicle fleet. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to analyze, troubleshoot, and enhance cellular connectivity performance, ensuring our autonomous vehicles operate seamlessly in complex real-world environments. Your insights will drive improvements in system architecture and performance, directly supporting Zoox’s mission to deliver safe, reliable, and intelligent mobility-as-a-service.

Required Skills:

• B.Eng or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field
• Expert-level knowledge of 4G-LTE and 5G-NR air interfaces, including L1-L3 (PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, NAS)
• Hands-on experience with modem-level chipset tools such as Qualcomm QXDM/QCAT and Samsung ShannonDM
• Strong proficiency in Python for automation and log analysis
• Proven troubleshooting skills for complex live network performance issues, including mobility, interference, and call drops
• Familiarity with IEEE 802.11 protocols, TCP/IP networking, and understanding of RAN and Core Network architecture
• 3+ years of professional experience in cellular protocol domain

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with Wireshark or other network analysis tools
• Knowledge of system architecture design and development for wireless communication systems
• Additional scripting language experience, such as Bash or Perl
• Experience with autonomous vehicle connectivity systems

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related discipline
• 3-5+ years of relevant professional experience in cellular telecommunications, particularly in live network troubleshooting and performance optimization

Other Requirements:

• This position requires onsite work in Foster City, CA, five days a week
• Candidates must pass a background check and drug screening upon offer
