Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive external communications programs that align with state policy goals.
• Establish and nurture relationships with local and regional media outlets.
• Create and execute effective communications campaigns to educate policymakers and media on key issues.
• Provide strategic communications counsel to internal teams regarding policy challenges and opportunities.
• Lead and organize events such as press conferences and media tours to enhance visibility and engagement.
• Produce diverse content, including opinion pieces and digital materials, to support communication efforts.
• Manage issues effectively and serve as a key communications advisor during crises.

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in public relations, particularly with a focus on public policy.
• Exceptional communication and writing skills, with a proven ability to convey complex information clearly.
• Strong media relations skills and experience working with policy reporters.
• Adept at managing multiple stakeholders and working collaboratively across teams.

Preferred Skills

• Experience serving as a spokesperson on public policy issues.
• Familiarity with legislative processes and public policy advocacy.
• Ability to analyze and dive deep into policy issues to inform communication strategies.
