This onsite Development Engineer role in Brooklyn Park, MN focuses on backend development, Kafka-driven eventing, and high-quality code in a collaborative environment with strong emphasis on testing, observability, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and enhance backend services and new features within an established microservices environment.
• Develop and maintain Kafka producers and consumers to support event-driven systems.
• Contribute to application architecture and help translate high-level designs into reliable technical solutions.
• Write clean, testable code and support strong test coverage across development work.
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting of complex technical issues.
• Help improve observability by working with logging, metrics, and monitoring tools.
• Support production systems, including rotating on-call responsibilities for 24x7 services.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members in an Agile environment.
• Follow deployment, change management, and operational processes to support smooth delivery.

Skills

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, ideally in backend or enterprise environments.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Solid knowledge of Kafka, including working with producers, consumers, and stream processing.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Familiarity with Git, Maven or Gradle, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes or similar container technologies.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working in a consulting or contracting environment.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry or Grafana.
• Familiarity with React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases.
• Exposure to event sourcing, CQRS, or other advanced architectural patterns.
• Experience building automated end-to-end test suites.
• Interest in AI-assisted coding tools or intelligent systems.
• Comfort working in fast-moving Agile/Scrum teams.
