Join a hands-on fleet support engineering team helping keep advanced robotaxis safe, reliable, and ready for service. This onsite role in Foster City, CA focuses on troubleshooting, repair validation, and continuous improvement across interior, exterior, closure, lighting, and cabin systems.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical contact for urgent issues involving interior and exterior vehicle systems, especially doors and closures.
- Investigate mechanical, electrical, and software-related faults to determine root cause and confirm effective repairs.
- Validate closure calibration, measurements, and component bring-up after repairs or replacements.
- Perform functional checks, fit and finish assessments, and cycle testing to ensure repairs meet quality expectations.
- Lead problem-solving efforts on recurring body, closure, and lighting issues and help drive corrective actions across the fleet.
- Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides, service procedures, and repair documentation for technicians.
- Differentiate between wiring, connector, and component issues using schematics, pinouts, and diagnostic data.
- Own escalations related to exterior and interior lighting, including fault isolation and safety-related follow-up.
- Review fleet and ticket data to identify trends and support ongoing product and quality improvements.
- Coordinate structural, cosmetic, and vendor-supported repairs while helping reduce vehicle downtime.
- Support night, weekend, and occasional U.S. travel requirements as needed with advance notice.
Skills
- 2–4 years of relevant experience in automotive, transportation, autonomous vehicles, or a related technical field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Practical experience with body, closure, trim, lighting, or other vehicle hardware systems.
- Ability to measure gap and flush, assess fit and finish, and interpret tolerance requirements.
- Working knowledge of schematics, electrical diagrams, and connector views or pinouts.
- Experience reviewing UDS issues and basic CAN/log data for troubleshooting.
- Strong root-cause analysis skills and a holistic approach to solving technical issues.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams in fast-moving service environments.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with electromechanical door and closure systems, including actuator calibration.
- Background diagnosing automotive lighting systems, including LED, DRL, signal lamps, and harness-vs-component issues.
- Familiarity with software-controlled or animated exterior lighting systems.
- Experience using service, calibration, or bring-up tools and working with firmware deployment.
- Knowledge of electric vehicle technology.
- Experience supporting vehicle troubleshooting remotely.
- Exposure to body repair, refinishing, or vendor coordination such as body shop, paint, or vinyl wrap work.
- Experience with Linux- and Python-based tools for fleet data analysis or processing.
