Join a dynamic backend engineering team building scalable services that support email security and enterprise messaging workflows. This remote W2 opportunity is a great fit for a Java engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, improving reliability, and contributing to high-performing distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop new features, enhancements, and bug fixes within an existing distributed application environment.
- Create and maintain automated unit and integration tests to support code quality and stability.
- Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions with cross-functional team members.
- Support database schema updates, data migrations, and related backend changes.
- Investigate and resolve production issues related to application behavior and data processing.
- Collaborate with technical and business partners to address pipeline and system issues.
- Contribute to the performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems.
Skills
- 5+ years of professional backend software development experience with Java.
- Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
- Experience building and supporting distributed or event-driven applications.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Solid understanding of unit and integration testing practices.
- Experience troubleshooting production applications and resolving complex technical issues.
- Experience working with relational databases and supporting schema or data changes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with messaging or event-streaming tools such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or JMS.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Background working in security-focused or highly available production environments.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience using agentic coding tools and collaborative development workflows.
- Knowledge of email processing, SMTP, MIME, or enterprise messaging concepts.
- Experience with SQL and familiarity with tools or technologies such as Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, Gradle, OTEL, Azure, EventHub, or MS Graph API.
