In this role, you will serve as a Data Center Design Manager, influencing all aspects of data center design, construction, and equipment qualification. You will work with internal and external teams to define, design, and implement complex infrastructure projects that power AWS's global presence. As an owner, you will ensure our facilities meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and efficiency while driving innovation in our design and construction processes.
Primary responsibilities will include leading project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs globally within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality and leading the equipment qualification process.
You'll develop and maintain scalable mechanisms to integrate diverse teams, ensuring all power and cooling equipment undergoes proper qualification testing.
The ability to coordinate across architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines while managing relationships with material suppliers and contractors will be essential.
As a technical leader, you will ensure that contractors have the information they need to build our data centers to AWS standards, and that our operations teams are well-equipped to maintain them effectively. You'll work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including design teams, construction managers, commissioning agents, operations personnel, vendors, and local building officials. You will be part of a global team transforming how cloud infrastructure is designed and delivered.
Key job responsibilities
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver data center designs within schedule and cost constraints
• Oversee the complete equipment qualification process, ensuring alignment across various teams and adherence to technical, operational, safety, quality, reliability, and business requirements on a global scale
• Develop and sustain a scalable mechanism to seamlessly integrate diverse teams and ensure that all power and cooling equipment undergo the required qualification tests
• Collaborate with architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines, as well as material suppliers, to deliver high-quality designs that support favorable business outcomes
• Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, operations teams, and external consultants
• Drive innovation in design and construction processes to reduce costs and improve efficiency
• Create and maintain global best practice documentation
• Oversee project metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality
Basic qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architectural or related field
• 6+ years of design experience in commercial / industrial / other complex technical projects
• 5+ years of mission-critical facility design or technical program management experience
• 3+ years of project management experience, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk management

- Relevant size scope of complexity similar to data centers (large construction, not looking for residential, or only done two projects, looking for fairly good mix in resume)
