Duties:
- Speaks directly with the patients, providers and other users of our digital products;
- Conducts generative research to understand user needs and evaluative research to assess conceptual prototypes of digital experiences.
- Conduct and coordinate studies and synthesize the research into findings for consideration and discussion on the Product team.
- Establishes the goals of the research, the methods they will use to gather data, and the budget and timelines required
- Creates a deep understanding and empathy for our target customers through sprint cycle rapid-feedback loops
- Creating recruiting screeners, test scripts, interview guides and scheduling research studies
- Utilizing remote, unmoderated usability test platforms (Usertesting.com, User Zoom, etc.) to rapidly turn around concurrent tests
- Provides oversight of vendors that assist with research and/or subject recruitment.
- Understand how research impacts the role of Product Owner and the relevance of research to other Product lines and key stakeholders.
- Recognize how to analyze qualitative data, provide feedback analysis and differentiate from quantitative data in reporting.
Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of design research tools and methods including ethnography, field observation, contextual inquiry, usability testing, and prototype testing.
- Researcher should be able communicate these recommendations clearly to a project or executive team.
- Practices Human-Centered Design (HCD) and product development which aligns with Mayo Clinic’s core organizational value that “the needs of the patient come first”.
- Experience working in an agile environment (scrum, kanban, scrumban, paired programming etc.)
- Understanding of the Human Centered Design (HCD) process.
- Working knowledge of User Testing, Usability and UX Research methods.
- Ability to perform basic Statistical Analysis and Data Summary.
- Strong abilities in analysis, interpretation and synthesis of findings.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including confident presentation skills.
- Excellent ability to speak with people with serious and complex medical conditions.
- Self-motivated and excellent organizational skills to lead critical projects.
- End-to-end knowledge of all stages of research (study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis and reporting).
- Keeps up with Design Research industry knowledge and brings to bear on operations. Brings innovation in process or methods to the XD Research section.
- Mentors XD Researchers in their work.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the ethics and professionalism in Design Research
- Good understanding of the security / sensitivity around patient medical data. Experience and training in Personal Identification Information (PII) or Personal Health Information (PHI).
- Experience working with Accessibility concerns for Digital products.
