Job Description
The Strategic Capabilities Project Management Office (PMO) is seeking a Project Manager Consultant with Agile and Waterfall experience.
 
As a member of the Strategic Capabilities Program Management Office (PMO), the Project Manager will play a key role in driving Strategic Capabilities projects from initiation through completion. This role resides in a business PMO.
 
The successful Project Manager will lead project facilitation across the Strategic Capabilities project portfolio of work using Waterfall, and Agile/Scrum project management methods and tools in support of key project deliverables. This consultant will implement life insurance products onto a new platform designed to modernize underwriting processes. The position reports into the Strategic Capabilities PMO Manager and is based in the corporate headquarters. 
 
Key responsibilities include:
•    Responsible for leading the delivery of multiple strategic initiatives using SDLC (Waterfall) and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
•    Creates roadmap for program/project.
•    Defines project roles/responsibilities and determines/ensures proper resourcing for project (including on-shore and off-shore resources).
•    Establishes workstreams and leads meetings/manages deliverables as appropriate.
•    Defines and manages time, quality, risk, and quality parameters for project.
•    Establishes timelines, milestones, helps define implementation dates, and ensures commitments of deliverables with project core teams.
•    Ability to determine when to escalate risks and issues where appropriate within a project; makes suggestions and recommendations.
•    Manages and collaborates with the project core team, cross organizational teams, and key stakeholders in detecting and documenting possible risks, issues (along with associated remediation plans), and all changes to scope and/or schedule; mitigates/escalates as needed to resolve and achieve commitments from all key stakeholders. 
•    Partners closely with the business project lead and Technology Project Manager facilitating close coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
•    Ensures project status is proactively communicated to all key stakeholder and core project team members via daily stand-ups, project meeting minutes, and weekly project status reports.
•    Analyzes project impediments and designs/implements solutions. 
•    Manages and organizes project documentation on SharePoint site.
•    Proactively explores opportunities to add value to the business by re-engineering processes to save time/money, decrease risk or increase quality.
•    Supports and manages any ad hoc project requests as required. 
•    Keeps track of lessons learned and implements solutions for improvement; shares lessons learned with future projects.
•    The successful Project Manager will support and/or champion process and tool improvement efforts to strengthen and build upon existing PMO capabilities by continuously improving project management functions and developing new capabilities as appropriate.
•    Responsible for coaching and leading multiple project teams to follow the core set of standard Agile/Scrum and Waterfall processes and standardized tools designed to deliver high quality and exceptional business value to our customers.

Essential Requirements and Experience:
Functional Knowledge
•    Bachelor’s degree required.
•    Project Management Professional (PMP) certification highly preferred.
•    Certified Scrum Master (CSM/SCM) certification preferred.
•    5-8 years of relevant experience in Project Management within the Insurance/Finance Industry preferred.
•    Excellent analytical skills, independent thinking, and ability to exercise prudent judgment.

Technical Expertise
•    Requires in-depth expertise in Project Management knowledge and competencies.
•    Skilled in project software: SharePoint, MS Project, MS Office, and Visio.
•    Knowledge of Agile tools such as JIRA preferred.
•    Knowledge of Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe) is a plus.
•    Basic understanding of products sold (Long Term Care products are a plus) and underwriting processes within the life insurance industry to interpret business requirements and goals.
•    Ability to build reports and presentations with appropriate details for varying audiences.

Leadership
•    Ability to enable self-organizing/managing teams to achieve its goals by teaching and coaching the agile process, implementing and supporting lean agile principles and practices, identifying and eliminating impediments, and facilitating flow.
•    Ability to build strong working relationships and work effectively both independently, and as a collaborative team player.
•    Ability to hit the ground running and quickly begin contributing to the projects/workstreams’ delivery.
•    Ability to understand the corporate and business area culture/dynamics and pro-actively/quickly adapt to them.
•    Demonstrated ability to work well across organizations and with cross-functional teams.
•    Strong negotiation, organization, time management, and Project Management skills are required as there will be multiple project assignments to balance at any given time.
•    Displays passion for their work and has ability to engage and energize others.
•    Builds the project team and creates collaboration and cohesiveness amongst all team members while supplying motivation and feedback.

Communication Requirements
•    Adeptly communicates, persuades, and negotiates with others to build consensus across the teams.
•    Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills as position will engage with management, key stakeholders, and business partners.
•    Ability to lead teams in a results-oriented and collaborative manner.
•    Highly skilled in communicating clearly and concisely and at the right level of detail for the intended audience.
•    Prepares communications regarding project direction, decisions, issues, risks, and status for management.
