The role requires a self-directed, results-oriented sales professional with technical aptitude, strong consultative sales skills and experience and ability to qualify customer needs, develop new sales opportunities, and optimize existing distribution accounts to increase product market share and new product sales. Selling to Electrical contractors involves engineering specs for large single projects. Lots of time on RFPs bidding directly to a contractor. We sell at a single fixed price in high volume to a distributor and then go and pitch the value of our brand to the installer to drive demand from the bottom up.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Experience with engineering specs for large single project.
- Experience with RFPs bidding directly to a contractor.
- Achieves sales operational objectives for assigned territory by contributing sales information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining regional sales system improvements; implementing change.
- Meets regional sales financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Establishes sales objectives by creating a sales plan and quota for districts/sales representative partners in support of national objectives.
- Maintains and expands customer base by counseling district sales representatives; building and maintaining rapport with key customers; identifying new customer opportunities.
- Recommends product lines by identifying new product opportunities, and/or product, packaging, and service changes; surveying consumer needs and trends; tracking competitors.
- Implements trade promotions by publishing, tracking, and evaluating trade spending.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.
- Interest and experience in territory management, new business development, and customer retention are primary factors of success.
- Work independently or jointly with distributor sales team to develop end-user customers through product testing, product application, and consultation.
Education and Experience:
- Sales experience and success in developing customers in a multi-channel sales scenario
- Proven skills in prospecting, qualifying, demonstrating and influencing diverse decision makers to accurately target and develop new business opportunities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers and industry partners
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time as appropriate
- Prior experience in the manufacturing/industrial segment
- Familiarity with the solar industry and its product applications
- High comfort level with communication technology, conference calls, presentation software, remote communication, etc.
