  • This role is part of a team focused on designing, building and supporting middleware application environments containing web/application servers, middleware integration products, and supporting tools.
  • Responsibilities of this role include a mix of designing and building new application environments as well as supporting existing application environments.
  • This role is part of a weekly on-call support rotation schedule. Install, configure, patch, upgrade and support knowledge for J2EE middleware such as Websphere and Jboss EAP, Apache web server, and Red Hat Fuse and AMQ are required. Understanding of automation tools such as Puppet, Ansible and Jenkins is required.
  • The candidate must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders, and complete efforts with minimal direction.
  • They will also have a strong passion for developing new and innovative solutions to solve existing problems, and desire to constantly improve the services we provide to the organization.
  • The candidate must possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, and must be able to independently research and resolve technical problems while collaborating with application and infrastructure teams.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, maintain and patch Web Sphere 7 and 9, and JBoss EAP 6/7.x
  • Install, configure, maintain and patch Apache HTTPD webserver
  • Install, configure, maintain and patch Red Hat AMQ and Red Hat Fuse
  • Design, develop, enhance, maintain and execute automation configuration, patching, and upgrading of systems and applications using Puppet, Bitbucket and Rundeck
  • Configure, maintain, and execute scripts on Redhat Linux and Solaris servers and bash shell scripting
  • Install, configure, maintain and patch AppDynamics monitoring tool agents
  • Configure and tune application server JVM parameters for optimal system performance.
  • Document designs, environment topology, configurations, and work plans
  • Refresh server certificates and resolve server middleware vulnerabilities
  • Working closely with software engineering (development), network, infrastructure, DBA, and other teams to design, implement and support applications’ middleware stack
  • Own and coordinate middleware task dependencies with systems that use middleware and built using technologies such as SpringBoot, Fuse, AMQ, etc.
  • Perform middleware admin activities to support security, risk, compliance and audit requirements
  • Guide and enable junior team members with middleware architecture, design and automation
  • Provide day-to-day support of production and non-production middleware server environments.
  • Provide on-call support on a rotational basis
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Five to six years of relevant experience
Required Skills / Experience:
  • In-depth hands-on experience with installation and configuration of Websphere Application Server ND and JBOSS EAP application servers, Apache HTTPD web servers, Red Hat AMQ and Red Hat Fuse
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Puppet (preferred), Chef, Ansible, Rundeck, Jenkins, and/or related tools.
  • Hands-on experience with developing, executing scripts and independently performing troubleshooting on Linux and/or Unix (RHEL/Solaris) operating systems
  • Working knowledge of how load-balancers such as Netscaler or F5 appliances work (configuration experience for this not required)
  • Working knowledge of server and application monitoring tools agent configuration such as App Dynamics and Slack
  • Understanding of configuration management concepts and tools, and how to use them.
  • Understanding of the JVM and how it operates and optimizing it for best performance and availability; i.e. Garbage Collection, Tuning, etc
  • Basic knowledge of DevOps toolsets such as Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker etc. desirable
  • Considers scalability, reliability and performance of systems/contexts affected
  • Able to communicate processes and results with all parties involved in the product team
  • Strong aptitude and analytical skills including ability to troubleshoot complex issues
  • Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies
  • Strong customer focus and drive for results
