Projects the candidate will be working on:

  • This would be to help support daily operation support.
  • We have lost several DBA’s due to retirement and voluntary termination.
  • We have an open req in for recruiting and one in contract employment.
  • Hoping thru contract we can get a resource in a little quicker.
  • We are in a bind on being able to support the business appropriately.


  • Must be experienced with MS SQL Versions 2012, 2016 and 2019.
  • If has experience with MySQL or Postgress it would be a plus

Team and Team size:

  • There is typically 6 dbas on my team that support MS SQL, MySQL, Postgress and Oracle.
  • Currently I’m down to 3.
  • They are not developers.
  • They are infrastructure DBA’s.
  • They work with the developers to optimize code, help streamline processes, make sure everything is backed up, troubleshooting performance issues, etc..
  • They do not write code.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and deploy new databases applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
  • Assign security to database elements using best practices and alignment with security policies
  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Design and perform database and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Design, test, implement and monitor databases and related servers in the enterprise systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to database system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
  • Recommend and execute modifications to database and server environments to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with various Information Services departments to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate database environments to meet business demands.
  • Thorough understanding of application lifecycle management process including planning, design, development, maintenance, and management of multi-terabyte databases in a 24/7 support environment.
  • Development of long-term database strategies and objectives, standards, and procedures for enterprise wide systems.
  • Teaming with technical and business resources to perform implementation and ongoing upgrades of the software.
  • Monitors and maintains physical database structures for data integrity, database performance, quality, recoverability, maintenance, and space requirements to maintain optimal service levels.
  • Researches, evaluates, and coordinates software releases, systems upgrades, enhancements, and software updates to ensure that client specifications and industry standards and best practice guidelines are met.
  • Ensures alignment with enterprise IT operations, applications development, and business units to understand and interpret on-going business needs, storage and reporting requirements, and emerging trends.
  • Supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of operational standards, including policies and procedures for database application development and database programming.


  • At least 3-4 years being a MS SQL DBA

Nice to have:

  • Experience with MySQL and/or Postgres

Interview Process:

  • We typically do a phone screen that takes around 30 mins. Those that pass that stage we do a 1 hour tech screen with the DBA’s. After that we will be ready to make a decision. If the second one can be Video that is best.
