Position Summary:

  • Sr. Database Administrator in RDBMS Technologies (IBM DB2 on AIX, Oracle and MySQL) with deep knowledge and broad experience.
  • This Database Engineer will be part of Global Infrastructure & Operations organization, with Database Services Team, with a specific focus on database administration & engineering.
  • The ideal candidate will be flexible and flourish in a fast paced and challenging environment.
  • They should be a self-starter, self-motivator, and possess ingenuity to excel at this position.
  • This individual will need to demonstrate strong knowledge in Linux, server/storage infrastructure, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ideally looking for a candidate who has broad strengths across multiple RDBMS technologies and experienced in working with Infrastructure Teams with knowledge and experience in scripting (Shell, SQL, Python) and Infrastructure As A Code (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform) engineering concepts.
  • Ideally, the candidate would be expected to have strong coding background with database and infrastructure knowledge.
  • The team is highly distributed across geographies and time zones, and you will thrive in an environment of remote work and asynchronous communication with current work place policies (subject to change).

  • Administration: Collaborate on problem resolution with production system reliability & stability Develop strong documentation and runbooks (Ansible, Puppet) Solve database optimization tasks Highly knowledgeable in HA, ACTIVE-ACTIVE and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies leveraging IBM/Db2/AIX, Oracle/Exadata/Linux, MySQL/Linux Database tuning and optimization Engineering:
  • Develop code for automation of tasks by leveraging SQL, Python, ksh, bash, other scripting languages Set up and maintain aspects of database monitoring & observability with code first approach using Python and similar languages Develop and optimize queries to increase efficiency of databases (SQL Tuning)
  • Research and troubleshoot data questions and provide support to our software developer teams.
  • Code First approach to log analysis, problem patterns, continuously looking at database and system to prevent issues. Pro-active database disaster prevention

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering required OR 3+ years experience 5+ years experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide high availability service .
  • 5+ years experience in fine tuning SQL queries and data replication.
  • 5+ years experience in coding (ksh, bash, Python) 5+ years experience in SQL Tuning 3+ years experience with containers.
  •  Kubernetes and orchestration tools Excitement about building, operating, and maintaining resilient, scalable systems .
  • Drive for observability to understand performance and be able to diagnose problems .
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to pair on problems, brainstorm in public, and enthusiastically engage with your teammates in group problem solving.
  • 5+ years experience with IBM/Db2/AIX, MySQL, ORACLE/Linux Technical writing skills Test database systems and perform bug fixes Maintain accurate and complete database programming documentation

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Strong attention to detail, high degree of accuracy, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with IBM/Db2 HADR, Oracle RAC, RMAN, and similar backup/HA/Active-ACTIVE-ACTIVE technologies. Experience working with SAP systems is a plus
  • Have a working knowledge and provide basic support for MS SQL and Windows Server.
  • Experience with GIT Ansible and Puppet experience plus Experience with Terraform is a plus Big Data Experience
